STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS:A limited number of graduate student travel awards will be available. Students who wish to apply should send a one-page abstract for a poster to be presented at the conference to office@asms.org by September 1, 2004. Awardees will receive $300 and complimentary conference registration. |

PURPOSE:The purpose of the Asilomar Conference on Mass Spectrometry is to provide an international group of scientists a forum for in-depth and informal discussion of the most recent developments in an area of mass spectrometry, with the intent of stimulating creativity, critical thinking, and the exchange of ideas. |

LOCATION:The campus-style setting of Asilomar offers an ideal environment for informal meetings and recreational activities. Asilomar, “the refuge by the sea,” is located at the tip of the Monterey Peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It occupies 105 acres of secluded forest and dunes that are preserved by the California State Park System as a nature center and historic site. Asilomar is approximately 120 miles from San Francisco International Airport and about 65 miles from San Jose International Airport . Rental car transportation to Asilomar is required from either of these two airports. From the Monterey Airport , taxi fare to Asilomar is approximately $20. |

ACCOMODATIONS:The accommodations at Asilomar are charming and comfortable; however, rooms do not have televisions or telephones. The conference room rates include four nights and all meals (dinner on Friday through lunch on Tuesday). Asilomar does provide free wireless Internet access in the main building. Accommodations must be reserved on the conference registration form. |

OFF-SITE PARTICIPANT:If you do not stay at Asilomar, there is a charge of $100 for use of the facilities during the period of the conference. This fee includes lunch tickets for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, as well as the conference banquet. |
